The Beacon Theatre’s roots began
in 1928 first opening as The Broadway Theater, one week
prior to its sister facility The Byrd Theater in
Richmond, both designed by architect Fred Bishop.
The Broadway was
sold in 1931 and renamed The Beacon Theatre, showcasing
movies and live performances until closing in 1981.
Following a number of
unsuccessful attempts to restore and renovate the
Theatre, the City of Hopewell was granted control of the
building in 2011.
Restoration and rehabilitation began in April
2012 reviving the Theatre to its original condition.
Reopening with a sold-out
performance in January 2014, The Beacon Theatre has
reprised its role as a center for concerts, live
theatrical performances, recreational events, weddings,
meetings, receptions even Hollywood movie productions!
You can now become part of
history, helping to pave the way for The Beacon
Theatre’s future by purchasing a permanent personalized
engraved brick which will be placed in the Theatre’s
commemorative walkway outside the main entrance.
Each brick is 4”x8” which can accommodate
engraving of up to 3 lines of text, each line containing
up to 18
characters.
Each brick purchased for
placement in The Beacon Theatre walkway is priced at
$150. If
you would like a replica donor brick for yourself they
may be purchased for $50 each.
The Beacon Theatre reserves the
right to review all text for appropriateness and to
decline those that do not reflect the spirit of the
project.
