Thank you for your
interest in the Truth For Youth BUILDING BACK BETTER Belmont Walkway Project!
Truth For Youth, Inc., is
a 501(c)3 non-profit organization serving Northwest Florida since 1993. Our
mission creates and provides educational, recreational, cultural, and social
programs for at-risk underserved youth ages 6-16 in Escambia and Santa Rosa
Counties. Our programs are designed to challenge youth to engage in wholesome
activities by providing healthy and creative opportunities for education, social
exchange, and personal development through caring hands-on volunteers. These
activities promote and encourage academic excellence, moral and civic
responsibility, self-esteem, positive self-image, confidence, pride, discipline,
and respect for self and others.
For over thirty years
now, Truth For Youth has funded FOOD, FUN, FAMILIES, FAMINE RELIEF and
FELLOWSHIP FREE to the public to enhance the quality of life of every resident,
regardless of the neighborhood they live in. Our outreach efforts have impacted
youth and their families at home, at their schools, churches, parks, community
centers, and public housing facilities. And now, the time has come that we ask
your greatest support in the rebuilding of our facility- our home, and our
center, the Belmont Cultural Center.
The Truth For Youth-
Building Back Better "ONE BRICK AT A TIME" Belmont Walkway Project will help us
to REBUILD, REVITALIZE, and RENOVATE the 40,000sqft Belmont Cultural Center,
which is our headquarters, operating facility and a 1918 treasured gem in the
community once known as Bennett's Bakery, Reed's Bakery, and Smith's Bakery, and
is a Pensacola landmark. It is located within “The Blocks”, the Historic
Belmont-DeVilliers neighborhood, and Black business and entertainment district,
strategically situated within the heart of Downtown Pensacola near the
designated site of the Pensacola Blues- Mississippi Blues Trail, Historic
Marker.
This 106-year-old pearl
is perfectly poised and primed for preservation purposes, according to the
Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, "Florida's 11 to Save, Most Threatened
Historic Places” list, accompanied by its unique and equally historic value as
“Harlem of the South.” Due to its designation along the “Chitlin Circuit” from
the 30’s through the 60’s legendary blues, jazz and R&B greats such as Ma
Rainey, Sam Cooke, and Ike and Tina Turner performed there alongside three of
our visitors’ favorites, Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, and B.B. King, who
are vividly recreated in a shadowed silhouette tapestry displayed on our
Legendary Trio mural at the corners of North DeVilliers & West Belmont Street
parking lot wall. Cultural heritage tourists, visitors, food and music lovers
alike come from across the country to stop by and take pictures at our Legendary
Trio mural.
With the purchase and donation of your brick, we will receive the necessary capital to financially support the renovations of this historic property. Your brick will be prominently displayed throughout the Belmont Cultural Center Walkway at the foot of the Legendary Trio mural of Louis Armstrong, Aretha Franklin, and B.B. King. Your donation helps us to revitalize a tourism destination attraction, rebuild a treasured cultural space, and renovate a historic preservation icon that draws local, regional, and weekend travelers- gathering at their favorite spot, Belmont-DeVilliers.
We need your greatest financial support to PRESERVE this PROPERTY and PROMOTE this PURPOSED mission to empower, encourage, and expand outreach, develop art-related activities for underserved youth, families, and communities, and reclaim a historic site BACK to the cultural heritage inventory "ONE BRICK AT A TIME!" So please, DONATE generously, TODAY!
