On Nov 11, 2024, the Maryland National Guard posthumously
commissioned abolitionist Harriet Tubman as a Brigadier General. The honor
recognizes her pioneering role as the first woman to lead a U.S. armed military
raid during the Civil War. This action corrects a historical oversight, formally
acknowledging her as a military leader.
General Tuman is recognized for her service as a scout, spy, and nurse,
particularly for organizing the 1863 Combahee River Raid, which liberated over
750 enslaved people.
We invite ALL US Military members to join us in our tribute by adding your
personal brick as a forever salute.
Total bricks available 691.
