The Della I. Hayden Memorial Garden

Alumni and friends of the historic Hayden High and Junior High School on Oak Street in Franklin, Virginia are being offered the once in a lifetime opportunity to honor the legacy of beloved educator, Della I. Hayden with the purchase of an engraved brick to be part of the Della I. Hayden Memorial Garden on the grounds of the new Hayden Village Center. The garden will overlook the cemetery where Della Hayden’s gravesite lies.

It is Mrs. Hayden’s spirit for learning, teaching and community that will be memorialized in this adaptive rehabilitation of the historic Hayden school building. When the building opens in the fall of 2018, it will be a multi-use facility offering affordable senior housing, the Western Tidewater hub for Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia’s programs and services including I-Ride Transit, a senior center with activities and hot weekday lunches for participating active older adults, a primary care medical clinic, space for intergenerational activities and programming, and rental space for community and private events.

You can purchase an engraved brick(s) to honor Della Hayden’s memory, or to pay tribute to a loved one, graduating class of Hayden High or Junior School, Greek society or other. Your participation will help ensure that Della Hayden’s legacy for learning, teaching and community is carried on for years to come. Your gift is 100% tax deductible.
