What's the 313?
The Ancestors Speak is a project designed to give voice to the lives of the 313+ enslaved and free African ancestors buried on the grounds of the Siloam-Hope First Presbyterian Church in Elizabeth, New Jersey.
The graves of the ancestors are currently unmarked and deserve remembrance.
With the profits from the sale of engraved bricks, the SHFPC congregation is dedicated to erecting a monument in honor of the forbears' souls.
By creating a proper memorial and telling of their stories, it is our intention to bring them out of the shadows and into the forefront.
