The City of New Bern Governing Board voted to support the “Patriot Square” proposal from the New Bern Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution and the Richard Dobbs Spaight Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution at the 13 January 2026 meeting as a commemoration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States of America.
The “Patriot Square” will be located in front of the City Hall flag poles just off Craven Street that will include a 10’ X 23’ brick pad site, two Patriot Bears (provided by the SAR and DAR) and a granite memorial plaque commemorating the 1774 New Bern Resolves. A Bricks-R-Us Fund Raising Campaign is being conducted by the SAR and DAR to help pay for the pad site and granite memorial plaque.
This represents an opportunity for citizens to become a permanent part of this commemoration by having the name of their person(s), business, or organization recognized as a patriotic legacy on a laser-inscribed red brick.
