In August of 1938, the Catholic Register announced that there would be a new parish created in the vicinity of Blue Ridge and 40 Highway.
On September 11th of that year, the first Mass was offered by Father Whelan in his home and he announced the name of the parish to be "Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary" since it was near her feast (September 8th).
The dedication of the new church took place on October 9, 1949 (now currently our school gym).
Temporary classrooms erected in the basement of the church for the 1955-56 school year until the school building was finished the following year.
Since then, the worship space has moved locations twice.
It was in the basement of our current school building for a number of years until the construction of our current worship space.
On September 8, 2020 we will celebrate 82 years as a parish and on December 10, 2020, we will celebrate the 17th anniversary in our current church.
When the church was built in 2003, the church parking lot was also constructed in a way that included parking lot islands.
In these islands, there were Ash trees planted that have unfortunately caused a problem and have since been removed.
The parking lot islands have since looked less than perfect.
Members of the parish council and liturgy committee have come together to work on a plan to beautify the parking lot islands, which is how the brick project was born! Families, parishioners, students, alumni, friends, businesses, you name it, are all invited to purchase a personalized brick that will be placed in our parking lot islands for years to come.
Nativity of Mary has come a long way and has seen many changes since 1938. Come be a part of the long-standing history of Nativity of Mary Church and School!
