On June 6, 2026, students, faculty, staff, families, friends, visitors and
special guests, including local officials, gathered for a Commemorative
Photograph in recognition of our nation's 250th Anniversary in front of the
beloved Kilbourne High School that was closed down in 2023, due to lack of
funding to keep the school open. This group gathered to share memories of times
past and share a vision of preserving memories of the nation's history and
hometown school.
The group began this fundraiser to help pay for a commemorative stone to
memorialize Kilbourne High School and recognize the nation's 250th Anniversary.
This village enhancement project begins around the village's flagpole located on
old railroad property that now belongs to the Louisiana Department of
Transportation that is maintained by the Village of Kilbourne. The plan includes
caring people purchasing bricks for a brick walkway of engraved bricks, a
commemorative stone with an inscription memorializing Kilbourne High School and
honoring the Nation's Semiquincentennial years of 1776-2026. The funds will
provide a foundation of memories with names listed of those that truly care.
"A Historical Walkway to Remember" dedication ceremony will be held on June 5,
2027, to reveal the finale for our nation and bring joy back into what was once
a very pride-filled town full of ballgames, senior plays, home economic and AG
classes that taught much more than academics with faculty who instilled respect
and honor that will never be forgotten.
