Indian River County Historical Society Pathways of Support

Established in 1983, the Historical Society is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization.  Our mission is to save, preserve, and restore the historical and environmental resources of Indian River County (IRCHS)  The IRCHS is an all volunteer organization.   In 1984, the Indian River County Historical Society purchased the abandoned 1903 Vero Beach Railroad Station from the Florida East Coast Railway (FEC) and embarked on its first historic preservation project.  The Hallstrom House was built in 1918 by Swedish immigrant Axel Hallstrom, who had his pineapple and citrus plantation on this farmstead.  It was bequeathed to the IRCHS in 1999.

The Hallstrom House, and the Vero Beach Railroad Station are both listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The properties serve as wonderful Museums and Exhibit Centers providing visitors with a close up historical view of Vero Beach, and Indian River County.

The IRCHS needs your help in supporting our mission, and also in maintaining our two properties.  Our "Pathways of Support" brick fundraising will provide needed repairs and building upgrades.  Our motto for this project is "Preserving History While Building for the Future".  Both of our properties are well over 100 years old, and they require ongoing maintenance to keep them open to visitors.  We also hope to expand educational facilities and exhibits to provide a close up look at our historical past.  These expanded educational opportunities will help make historical connections from the past while helping us build the history of the present and future.

Please consider purchasing a brick to help with funding capital improvement projects, and support the expansion of our educational programs.  Initially, the bricks will be used to build our "Pathways of Support" on the grounds of the Hallstrom House Farmstead.  These pathways will display your bricks in meaningful ways.  Future expansion of our Pathways of Support Project will include a pathways at the Train Station as well.
