Local artist Doug
McLean has created a beautiful sculpture which will will be cast in bronze and
placed in the new city park behind city hall where HOPE will look over the new
firehouse. Doug's interpretation is a wonderful tribute not only to the
survivors of the 1900 storm, but to the courage and resilience of the citizens
of Galveston who rebuilt the city after that devastating disaster but every
hurricane since. Also importantly, McLean wants to salute the women who have
spent their lives raising their families, creating and working for charities,
improving education opportunities and serving in positions in local government.
