Emerson-Hubbard Community Schools is developing an Outdoor Classroom to expand learning beyond the traditional walls of our building and create meaningful, hands-on opportunities for students in grades 6–12. This space will serve as a flexible instructional environment where teachers can integrate science, writing, problem-solving, and social-emotional learning into authentic, engaging experiences. Research consistently shows that well-designed outdoor learning environments improve student engagement, focus, and overall academic outcomes when intentionally connected to classroom instruction.
The Outdoor Classroom is being designed as a shared asset for both our students and the broader Emerson-Hubbard community. During the school day, the space will support core instruction and enrichment. Beyond school hours, it will provide opportunities for family events, student leadership activities, and community partnerships that strengthen connections between our school and the families we serve. Our goal is to create a space that is practical, durable, and used frequently.
We are seeking community partners to help bring this vision to life. Donations via bricks will directly support essential components such as seating, instructional surfaces, shade structures, and site preparation. Every contribution—large or small—moves this project forward and demonstrates our shared commitment to providing Emerson-Hubbard students with innovative, high-quality learning opportunities. Thank you for considering support of a project that will benefit our students for years to come
