After 8 years
of waging the fight against animals dying in shelters, we can say conclusively
that a low-cost community clinic offering high volume spay/neuter services and
affordable basic vet care is the best possible catalyst for reducing shelter
death rates in Louisiana, where they are among the highest in the country. Too
many pets are surrendered to kill shelters because they have contracted an
illness or injury their owners can't afford to treat. In fact, a huge and unmet
demand for low-cost care led us to outgrow our shelter clinic in 2018. At that
time, we put a plan into motion to create a low-cost community animal clinic for
the benefit of the entire northshore region.
Located at 82060
Highway 25 in Folsom, the new facility is geographically central to multiple
parishes, especially the rural communities who depend on us for help. The 5,700
sq. ft. building will give us the capacity to multiply the number of animals and
families we can help. We expect to see more 4,000 animals every year in the new
space. In addition to low-cost spay/neuter and affordable care for pets, our
facility will also house the first cat adoption cafe in Louisiana! Within the
facility, there are built-in ways to generate revenue. We will be able to
provide boarding there for both cats and dogs, and we will also have some retail
space.
We are so excited
to make this resource available to the families and animals in our community.
But first, we need your help to complete the community clinic! Please show your
support for reducing shelter deaths and changing the status quo for animals in
our region. A brick, a tile, or a bench featuring a message of your choice will
be displayed prominently to demonstrate your support for a better future for
animals and the people who love them.
