Opening in the fall of 1968,
Ballard High School is a senior high school in the
eastern suburbs of Louisville, KY.
Ballard's mission is to "strive to meet the needs of
students, parents and community through the
implementation of a rigorous and disciplined academic
environment as we continue to build upon a longstanding
tradition of excellence in academics, the arts, and
athletics".
Ballard has a long history of competitive and successful
girls and boys sports teams. Many of our athletes have
gone on to play at both the collegiate and professional
levels.
In
1999, a group of dedicated parents, supporting our girls
athletic program, took on the challenge to build our
field hockey field that is used by both the field hockey
and girls lacrosse teams. In 2004, parents and
supporters again raised funds for field lighting which
then allowed for night games to be played.
We continue to have active and
competitive field hockey and girls lacrosse teams and
host several tournaments for both sports throughout the
fall and spring seasons.
Our
field hockey and girls lacrosse field is located on the
Herr Lane side of campus. Currently, we do not have
restrooms for team and spectator use or a place for the
teams to change or store their gear on that end of
campus. To date, the only facilities we have access to
are portalets.
It is
now time to improve our facility and campus by adding
restrooms and a locker room. This will be a welcomed
addition for the teams and for those who come visit our
campus to watch a game.
Our
initial phase of fundraising is selling bricks for the
walk that will be connected to our new facility. Bricks
are 4x8 inches and can be purchased for $150 each. They
can be purchased in honor of current and alumni players,
coaches, and team supporters. They are a great way to
thank a parent, grandparent or any person who helped the
player along the way.
The
funds being raised will be used solely to build our
restrooms and locker room. We are looking for support
for this project as we continue to support the mission
of Ballard High School.
