I am excited to be serving St.
Mark for my Eagle Scout project by rebuilding the patio
area next to the side entrance near the church office.
This area’s current faux brick patio has deteriorated
over the years and I am organizing the construction of a
new patio using more durable and better-looking
brick pavers – much like those seen along the sidewalks
all around downtown Mount Prospect.
An integral part of the design
will be “memorial-type” bricks that St. Mark members -
and others - can order to remember the lives of loved
ones that may have passed or possibly to recognize
someone living that is deserving of a special
recognition. I have worked to keep the cost as
reasonable as possible and the majority of the money
raised will be used directly in the project.
Prices are $50 for the standard
size 4” x 8” memorial brick and $75 for an 8” x 8”
memorial brick. The larger brick includes an optional
religious, military, or marriage symbol at no extra cost
(standard 4 x 8 size bricks are text only.)
The overall design will utilize
8 x 8 bricks to create the cross and border areas of the
patio and 4 x 8 bricks will be placed randomly
throughout the patio.
Also, if sales go as well as I
expect, any excess funds will be donated directly back
to St. Mark for other purposes – perhaps for new
landscaping around the church, a patio bench, or another
deserving project but I will leave that up to the St.
Mark Board to decide.
Please consider purchasing a
brick or two for your loved ones. I look forward to
helping create a memorable addition to our beautiful
church that will be cherished for years to come!
In His service,
Greg Madden
ADDITIONAL
INFORMATION:
Memorial bricks must ordered by
October 20th to be installed in the initial patio
construction that is scheduled to take place on the
weekend of November 9th (the demolition of the existing
faux brick tiles is scheduled for the prior weekend of
October 26th.)
Bricks ordered after October
20th will not be installed until spring – most likely
sometime in March or April. Purchasers will be able to
order memorial bricks into the foreseeable future;
however, they are not likely to be installed until a
reasonable number of other bricks are ordered and brick
costs may increase at a later date.
