Leave Your Legacy on the Wall
The Sigma Theta Chapter of Sigma Alpha Mu
was founded at the University of Texas on October 22, 1922, and
we are about to celebrate our 90th year of existence at UT.
During our 90 years, we have had more than 2,500 young men enter
our fraternity as pledges and leave as men, brothers and
life-long friends.
The fraternity
house at 2501 Leon Street has been the center of our existence
since 1963. It is where we have all our meetings, dining
together and parties.
It has been over 25 years since
we have done any major renovations or improvements to the house.
This year we made a commitment
to 2501 Leon and the chapter did a large scale house improvement
project that encompassed removing the parking lot on 25th and
installing a full court basketball court, putting down some
beautiful landscaping on the front and side of the house as well
as installing a wrought iron fence around the house premises. We
are still planning to add security cameras around the exterior
of the house and installing a sound system in the downstairs of
the house.
The highlight
of this project is the complete remodeling of the downstairs
men’s and women’s bathrooms as well as the upstairs fraternity
bathroom.
Complete with new toilets and
stalls, redesign of the shower area as well as new sinks,
countertops and new designer tile to complete the project.
The restrooms have been
compared to the W Hotel and the Four Seasons restrooms as they
are now one of the highlights of the house.
This year’s
Alumni Weekend, September 8-10th, was a huge success.
With many alumni in attendance
from every decade starting with the 1950’s through the 2000’s,
we announced at this event that we are creating our “Leave
Your Legacy on the Wall” project.
You can now have your name and
personal message permanently engraved onto the wall of the Sigma
Theta house for future generations to see.
All of you have left your mark
on this fraternity in your own way and now we are asking you to
“Recommit to leaving your legacy to the fraternity”.
It is simple, purchase any size
brick and tell us what you want engraved on ‘your brick’. This
will be part of your legacy that your children, grandchildren
and many future SAM’s can know who you are.
All monies
collected are going into the Sigma Theta Alumni Chapter Fund
which is a separate entity from the fraternity.
Your donations will be used to
set up scholarships for pledges/actives in Sigma Theta that have
family or financial needs.
We do not ever want to exclude
a young man from being an active and productive member of Sammy
because of his family’s financial hardships. This
year we have had more members ask for financial assistance due
to loss of jobs or other personal hardships than in years past
and your donation will help ensure that someone else will get to
leave his legacy at the Sigma Theta fraternity. A portion
of you donation will be used to establish the Sigma Theta
Scholarship Fund in the Sigma Alpha Mu Foundation and will be
tax deductible.
Please share
this with other Sigma Theta alumni and Little Sisters that you
know to help make sure that everyone knows about this project.
We will send out a future
notice announcing the official date we will begin installing the
bricks as well as an invitation to the official “Sigma Theta
Legacy Wall Event”.
Thank you for your continued support to
Sigma Theta!
