Over the past 24 years, Bricks R Us has helped numerous nonprofits, schools and civic groups recognize donors with stunning displays made of engraved brick pavers. We’ve always been honored to help our clients accomplish their fundraising goals; however, at the height of the recession in 2010, we decided to give back even more. That’s when the Bricks R Us leadership created the BRU Foundation, which is dedicated to help families in need.

Working Families
When Bricks R Us considered starting a foundation, our team viewed struggling working families as a sector that could use more support. Like many of you, we heard stories of entire families becoming homeless and living in motel rooms or cars after losing their jobs. Our primary concern is the welfare of these families and children.
Therefore assistance from the BRU Foundation focuses on families with:
- One or more children (less than 16 years of age).
- At least one employed individual.
Emergency Bills
Families struggling to make ends meet can have shortages/emergencies in a number of areas, including mortgage payments, rent, water bills and other utilities. Bru Foundation partners with local agencies to identify families that need help with their emergency bills. Once the situation is identified, staff from the foundation cuts a check directly to the mortgage company, rental agency or utility. Checks are never made out to an individual.
Who Doesn’t Qualify
There are many charitable organizations in our area designed to help different niche groups. If someone doesn’t qualify for the BRU Foundation, it’s probably because they fit the outline for another charitable group. Some groups that don’t fit our qualifications:
- Families with no employed members
- Families with older teenagers
- Single persons
- Friends or relatives of Bricks R Us team members
Zero Overhead
All the expenses for the BRU Foundation are covered by Bricks R Us, Inc. This includes office space, salaries, office supplies, postage and more. Therefore, 100 percent of all donations to our foundation can go straight to work helping struggling families with their emergency needs.
