Fundraising Ideas for Your Greek Organization

September 30, 2014

Raising money is almost a second nature for sororities and fraternities.  Greek organizations often raise money in support of their favorite charities, but popular fundraising ideas often get reused year after year.  Here are some inspirational college fundraising ideas that might spark interest in a Greek organization’s nonprofit.

Fundraising Ideas for Your Greek Organization

Fraternities and sororities have scores of fundraisers at their disposal to help a nonprofit.

Puppy Rental

Everyone loves puppies.  Plus, most college students aren’t allowed to have pets on campus, so they probably miss the family dog.  Why not use that to your advantage? Provide students with an opportunity to play with a puppy for 15 minutes or half an hour while making a donation to a worthy cause.

If your cause is the local humane society, they can provide you with the puppies.  However, if you have another organization in mind, you can probably borrow some puppies ready for adoption from a local vet.

Remember to publicize the event ahead of time so that students bring proper identification and cash. Also, don’t forget that each puppy will need a leash for walking.  Who knows, you might even help a little guy find a new home!

Reverse Raffle

No one likes to be publicly embarrassed – which is why this fundraising scheme works!

  • At a party or scheduled meeting, hand out one free raffle ticket to each attendee.
  • Explain what the “prize” is.  This might include singing in front of the whole group, wearing a weird costume or having your face painted.
  • Participants that don’t want to “win” can sell their ticket or pay the organization to take the ticket back.  ($1, $5, $10, or your choice)
  • To really score big, promise that the head of the fundraising committee will “win” if all the tickets get sold back to the organization.

As college fundraising ideas go, the reverse raffle is very efficient.  It’s inexpensive, easy to manage, short in duration and requires no publicity.

Halloween Insurance

It’s true, most homeowners won’t have trouble with egging or soaped windows, but there’s always a possibility.  For a $5 donation per home ($10 for businesses), offer homeowners a Halloween Insurance Policy.  Your organization promises to clean up any mess made on Halloween night.  (This won’t include repairing actual vandalism, such as broken windows.) Remember to leave some space at the bottom of your policy to explain why you’re raising the money, as well as your contact information.

Brick Fundraiser

A popular college fundraising idea is selling engraved brick pavers to friends and supporters through Bricks R Us.  There are no upfront costs, and when the fundraiser is complete, there is no leftover product.  Plus, we have the best pricing in the industry.

If you would like to know more about college fundraising ideas, or about holding a brick fundraiser on your campus, contact Bricks R Us today.  We’ve been helping nonprofit organizations raise money and recognize donors with brick pavers for over 25 years!
