Most nonprofit organizations are concerned with raising money.  However, the smart organizations are also concerned with retaining their existing donors.  There are several factors involved with donor retention, but thanking your donor is definitely one piece of the puzzle.  To help with your donor retention efforts, here are five easy ways to say “thank you” to donors.

Thank You Card

Research tells us that donors support a mission because it makes them happy to do so.  Most nonprofits respond with a long, wordy, acknowledgement letter that really doesn’t say a lot.  Wouldn’t it make more sense to send a cheerful “thank you” card that conveyed the organization’s happiness?

Organizational Updates

Your donors are your best supporters.  When it’s time to send a donation acknowledgement letter, try to include any organizational updates that are available, no matter how small.  Keeping your supporters in the loop as much as possible is one of the nicest ways of saying “thank you” – even if you never actually say it.

Thank You Letter from a Client

Switch out the standard thank you letter for one written by a client.  Your donors will be able to see what it truly means when their gifts are leveraged to assist in your mission.  Plus, it will give them a stronger connection to your organization.

Special Invitation

When your organization sends out your next donation acknowledgement letter, show your appreciation by including information about signing up to attend a free event.  This could be a donor appreciation dinner, a behind the scenes tour of your facility, a Q & A session with a senior staffer, a lecture series or something similar.  To assure an accurate head count, remember to require registrations.

Engraved Brick Paver

Give your donors something that will visually and physically remind them of your organization and your mission.  By utilizing an engraved brick, your organization can show appreciation for donors with an economical, quality brick for the home or office.  Best of all, the engraved brick paver can be completely personalized for your organization and the donor.
