The Yerwood Center is celebrating its 65th anniversary
during 2008. We’ve planned a year of activities to thank the
community for supporting us as we have carried on our mission of
being a community resource center providing educational and
personal development opportunities to Stamford’s diverse
community.
We were founded in 1943 as the Stamford Negro Community Center
and later as the West Side Community Center, by Dr. Joyce
Yerwood, the first African American female Doctor in the State
of Connecticut.
Over the past 65 years, Yerwood has been a safe-haven community
center providing affordable and convenient educational,
recreational, and life skills programming to families and
particularly K-12 youth in Stamford’s inner-city communities.
Our programs provide academic enrichment in a safe and
stimulating environment and are designed to promote physical,
social, emotional, creative, and most importantly, intellectual
development of every child and person involved.
You can help us continue to serve the community by purchasing a
permanent inscribed brick to be installed in a recognition area
in front of our center.
What should your brick say? You can list your message of
support; show your corporate logo; list your child, children’s
or grandchildren’s names; list your dates of attendance in a
Yerwood program; recognize or thank your community hero; or give
a brick in memory of a loved one. The list is endless.
We have several options for you to select from:
4” x 8” with up to 4 lines of text with up to 19 characters per
line for just $65
8” x 8” with up to 5 lines of text with up to 19 characters per
line for just $175
8’ x 8” with a logo and 1 line of text with up to 19 characters
per line for just $750
Plus we have a second donor brick with a display stand and felt
backing for just price!
Please contact us at 203-327-2790 ext. 17 if you have any
questions about your order.
Thanks for your support. We look forward to our next 65 years of
serving the community!
