Duderstadt
field, affectionately known as “The Dude,” was in desperate need
of repair. It was full of rocks and holes and had to be rolled
and re-sod each year in order to provide a safe environment on
which to play. In addition, while space was at a premium in our
area, the local soccer and lacrosse programs continued to grow
at rapid speed. Members of
Warren’s Town Council and youth sports
communities recognized that by replacing the dirt with a turf
pitch we would ensure that 1,750 boys and girls would have a
safe place to play for a long time.
In an unprecedented
effort, Watchung Hills Lacrosse and Watchung Hills Soccer
Association joined forces to create the Friends of Watchung
Hills Soccer and Lacrosse, Inc. In August 2007, WHSA and WHL
presented a check for $200,000 to
Warren
Township to start the project
with funds borrowed from local organizations and individuals.
This money went toward prep work to get the project started. Warren
Township kicked in another
$375,000 for the field itself.
But we still need to
raise $225,000 in order to re-pay our loan and to install lights
so that the field may be used more efficiently and for longer
hours. Please continue to help us by purchasing a brick on the
"Walk of Champions."
Thank you for your generous
donation.
