George Washington High
School
The goal of the George Washington High School "Time for Turf"’
committee is to install a first-class artificial playing surface
at Steve Edwards Sr. Field, located on the campus of GW. The
committee hopes to have the surface installed and ready for use
by August 2008, when the Patriots begin preseason football
practice. GW football, though, won’t be the only sport to
benefit from the turf. The school’s highly successful boys and
girls soccer teams will finally have a true home field, as will
GW’s newest sport, lacrosse. GW’s award winning Band and
Physical education classes at the school also will benefit from
the upgraded field.
With new turf, Edwards Field will not only become the premier
on-campus athletic facility in Kanawha County, but also a jewel
to the South Hills Community, hosting events such as Sunday
afternoon midget football and other functions approved by the
school’s athletic department. The cost of the brick is $100
each.
