The City of Derby and its Greenway Committee have restored the
historic National Humane Alliance Fountain as the center point
of its Hall of Fame Plaza. The fully landscaped mini-park
features the functioning fountain surrounded by a commemorative
brick plaza that includes the Derby
Hall of Fame as
a “Gateway” entrance to the very successful Derby Greenway. The
Fountain has been a part of Derby history for more than a
century, and the city is offering everyone an opportunity to
create a personal legacy that will add to the allure of the
Fountain and Greenway for generations to come. You have the
opportunity to purchase a brick(s) that will be engraved to
commemorate a personal message. Bricks are a great way to
memorialize a loved one, honor a recent achievement, celebrate a
friend or relative, or leave a personal observation or
reflection. The bricks make great gifts!
This restoration of the Fountain and creation of the Hall of
Fame plaza began with the relocation of the Fountain to the
Greenway in June, 2006 and was completed with a formal
dedication on Labor Day weekend in 2007. The original lion’s
heads spigots were recast in South Dakota and re-mounted on the
Fountain. The surrounding brick plaza includes benches and trees
along with more than 500 bricks that may be purchased for
engraving. The City annually inducts a new class for the Hall of
Fame in conjunction with the annual Derby Day celebration in
June.
The bricks are being sold in either a 4”x8” size or 8”x8”. The
smaller brick can include up to three lines of text with 18
characters per line. The larger brick can accommodate up to six
lines of text with 18 characters per line. The smaller bricks
cost $50 and the larger ones are $100. Don’t wait to place your
order as the number of bricks on the plaza is limited, and over
250 have already been sold.
Logos: If you would like to add a custom logo to your brick, please
include an additional $50 set-up fee plus and $8.00 engraving
fee. Logos should be in black and white and in a high resolution
picture file.
